Visiting & Lodging

Woodland Park's strongest visitor draw is its access to major Passaic County open space. Garret Mountain Reservation and Rifle Camp Park offer scenic overlooks, hiking, picnicking, equestrian recreation and permit-based overnight camping within a few minutes of Route 46 and Interstate 80.

Lodging reality: Woodland Park does not currently have a conventional full-service hotel inside the borough. NJTGO therefore separates the in-town camping option from nearby hotels in Totowa and Wayne and labels those hotels as outside Woodland Park.

In-town visitor highlights

Garret Mountain Reservation

8 Mountain Avenue. Hiking, scenic overlooks, bicycle path, fishing, equestrian facilities, athletic fields and picnic areas. Open sunrise to sunset.

Rifle Camp Park

387 Rifle Camp Road. Two marked hiking trails, amphitheater, picnic areas, scenic views, warming shelters and an overnight camping area.

Rifle Camp history

The park area is associated with Revolutionary-era observation points used by Washington's troops to watch British movements across the region.

Woodland Park Day

The 2026 community celebration is scheduled for Saturday, September 19 at Memorial Field Complex, with entertainment and fireworks at dusk; rain date September 26.

Berkeley College

The active Woodland Park campus brings visitors for orientation, student activities and academic events.

Route 46 dining

Visitors can combine park trips with current Greek, Asian, Vietnamese, Korean and American restaurants along the borough's highway corridor.

Rifle Camp visitor note

Environmental center construction: The former John J. Crowley Nature Center and Astronomical Observatory has been closed during a major county/PCCC redevelopment into a new environmental education center. Visitors should not assume the observatory is open without checking current county information.
